Patch your kernel with an lirc patch
Load everything as modules -- lirc needs to use its own serial device 
driver, and the kernel's will interfere

emerge lircd

programs: xmode2 xmode irxevent irw irsend irrecord irpty irexec ircat

Get the remote config from www.lirc.org for FlyVideo_3000 and copy to 
/etc/lircd.conf

Actually, emerge lircd with LIRC_OPTS="--with-driver=flyvideo" and it 
auto installs some lirc conf files in /etc

Other than that, I'm stumped.  The buttons are mapped to weird events.
